On Saturday, January 30, 2016, almost 300 people filled the grand ballroom at the Airport Hilton Oakland for the 9th Annual Gala for the Alameda County Family Justice Center. The event was well attended by local elected officials, judges, members of the Bar, business leaders and other supporters who gave generously to support the ACFJC’s significant work in the community.
Opening remarks were given by District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley and US Congressman Eric Swalwell about the impact the ACFJC has for victims of violence in our community, and a short film highlighting the accomplishments of the center over the past decade was shown.
The ACFJC Gala is the one evening a year that the ACFJC raises additional funds to help the center develop and sustain their numerous innovative programs. These programs include:
It was a great evening, filled with great conversation, good food and a charitable outcome. The Center had many auction items, from artwork to box tickets to the Golden State Warriors, kindly donated by supporters to raise much needed funds for the year-round programs helping victims of violence.
Master of Ceremonies for the event was KTVU’s evening anchor Frank Somerville. Though he was sick, Somerville was a consummate professional. He attended the start of the event and spoke of the impact of domestic violence and sexual assault he has seen first-hand on the people he knows as well as those he has interviewed as a reporter with over 35 years experience. We wish to thank him for his dedication and commitment to supporting the Alameda County Family Justice Center.
Please mark your calendars for the ACFJC’s 10th Annual Gala next year, on the final Saturday of January, for a super special event.
